The first step in any revamping idea is to plan the design. It is seen that even a local professional can be approached, for a plan that would suit the homeowners' needs, requirements, and ideas. It is also important to keep the dimensions of the kitchen in mind.
There are specific designs that are available for both large over-sized kitchens, as also small kitchen areas. It is important to maximize designs that provide optimal efficiency and storage space.
While redesigning, it is important to keep majority of the amenities intact, and to build around it. It is advisable to clear the counter space, and empty all the drawers, and remove any junk existing. It is important to remember that dark colors, and large prints tend to make, the space seem smaller so they should be used accordingly. It is recommended to make shelves and cabinets on the walls, to help make use of the vacant spaces.
It is important to group the three important areas in the kitchen together. This includes the stove, the refrigerator, and the sink. It is to be noted that by creating more space around this trio, the kitchen can be made more functional and can give ample space for movement.
Lighting is another area that requires lot of forethought. The cooking area needs to be well lit and thus the lights in this area need to be more functional than decorative.
Flooring is an important area that also needs careful consideration. It is generally noted that homeowners are often attracted to hard Italian floorings, but prefer the comfort of soft padded floors that are a comfort to walk on.
Due importance should be given to ventilation, to keep the kitchen hygienic and devoid of odor. Chimneys are also a big help to keep the fumes away as are exhaust fans. It is also important to plan a large sink to avoid splashing of water when large utensils are being washed.
