SSIAs to drive home improvements spend
63% of Irish homeowners, questioned in a recent survey at the Myhome.ie Spring House & Garden Show, have searched online for home improvement related products and services in the last 12 months. With SSIAs about to mature this year, that spells good news for those in the Irish Home Improvements sector.

More than 90% of those surveyed plan to spend money on home and garden improvements in 2006. Top of the list for spending is building with 51% of respondents planning to either extend an existing house or to build a new house, the garden came next with 37% of respondents planning to improve their gardens followed by interior decorating or refurbishing an existing house at 33%. Other popular home improvement projects included decking (18%), kitchens (12%), attic conversion (9%) and adding a conservatory (6%).

These results coincide with other recently published figures on predicted SSIA spend which show that home improvements is one of the leading categories for planned spending second only to purchasing a new car.
