Cleaning a Driveway

Cleaning a driveway is not that hard to do when you have the proper equipment. One of the most common stains you see on a driveway, no matter what the material, is that of gas or oil from a vehicle. Many people do not realize that they can use common household cleaners to remove oil stains from asphalt or concrete.
If you have a cat in the house, then you have everything you need for the cleaning project. Cat litter is one of the best cleansing agents for oil. This is because it acts as an absorbent for the excess oil on the surface of the driveway. Sawdust also works well if you don't have any cat litter. Simply sprinkle it over the stain and leave it overnight. If the stain has been there for some time, then you can cover it with newspaper to help it sink into the stain. You can also grind the litter or the sawdust into the stain. Use a stiff broom to sweep up the powder that is left over.
Once you clean the oil stain, then you are ready to clean the rest of the soaked in stain. To do this, you will need to use a stain remover, such as laundry detergent or other cleaning agent. Spray on the cleaner and sweep it with a stiff bristled brush. You can remove the cleaner with a pressure washer and these are available for rent at reasonable prices. When using the pressure washer make sure you wear eye protection and if you add the garden hose to the washer it will keep the pump cool. If you have plants near the area, you should cover them with a tarp to protect them.
The pressure from the hose pointed directly at the stain should remove it from the driveway. However, if the stain has been there for a long time, you may have a lot of difficulty getting rid of it completely. Once you do clean the area, sprinkle a few drops of water on the area. If it sinks in, then you can go ahead and start sealing the driveway.
