Electric tankless water heaters have exploded in popularity over the past few years for many reasons. If you're a homeowner who expects to live in your home for years to come, then you should take a serious look at purchasing a tankless hot water heater.
The way in which an electric tankless water heater works is pretty straightforward. Water is heated as it passes through a heat exchanger. When you turn on the hot water faucet, a sensor will tell the heat exchanger to fire and heat the water. When you're finished using the hot water, the whole unit simply shuts off.
The benefits of an electric tankless water heater are numerous. Some of these include:
1. Much lower energy costs. A tankless hot water heater has no tank. It's not having to store 40 gallons of water and keep it constantly heated. This results in a savings of 40-60% on your electric bill.
2. An electric tankless water heater takes up very little space. It can be easily installed on an interior or exterior wall, or even in a closet if you wanted to.
3. The life expectancy of a tankless hot water heater is significantly longer than a conventional water heater. A tankless heater will last up to 20 years. Another important aspect is that they are built to where they can be repaired if necessary. so, if you needed to replace the heat exchanger you could.
There is one potential drawback with purchasing an electric tankless water heater. That drawback is the cost. These units are about twice the cost of a conventional hot water heater.
With that said though, if you're looking for a long-term energy efficient solution to your hot water needs, a tankless hot water heater should be at the top of your list.
