The Demise of the Contracting Industry
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Matthew_Shields]Matthew Shields

The construction industry typically has been considered a brick and mortar business. Unfortunately the mind set of "follow what everyone else has done" is all too common in the contractor marketing world. The advertising that your father used is not the way the public looks for information any longer.

The internet revolution has a strong hold on every ones lives. Phone books, newspapers, or fliers may get you some leads but at what expense. They are expensive, time consuming and ROI's are getting smaller

I'm sure you have heard the old expression time is money? Well the saying can not ring any more true in this situation. How many Saturday's have been spent driving around neighborhoods trying to pick out who may need your service? How many thousands of dollars have you spent to be plastered right next to your biggest competitor? The internet has changed these problems, those that learn how to use it effectively will yield a much higher return...those that do not...we'll lets just say they will be left in the dust.

When you incorporate technology correctly into your business you will realize a control you have never had before. The problem with much of the "geriatric marketing" that we are so accustomed to using relies on the person reading the message to remember you when the time comes to need your services.

Do you think your flier or business card will stick around that long? The phone book is a handy alternative that will most likely be used as a door stop in many peoples homes.

The modern ways of advertising once set in place allow you to control the flow of your work, and a minimal expense. The bottom line is not incorporating technology will be the demise of many companies, are you going to be a strong contractor in the future?

As I have advised so many contractors in the past, learning how the net works and how to use it for your contracting company will be vital in the coming years. If you have not already done so joining Twitter is a great way to start learning the ropes. Here is my profile find me and I will show you the ropes.
