If I was to guess, I would imagine that more than 75% of everyone living in the United States, men, women and children, don't know how to handle a situation where water is leaking from their ceiling. By the time you finish reading this article, you won't be one of them anymore.

However, I have heard these words more than once, because I am a general contractor who does home remodeling, room additions and home repairs. If you have water leaking from your ceiling, there's a good chance that it's either going to be coming from a damaged roof or water supply pipe. There are other things that cause water to leak from your ceiling; however these are the two most common ones.

If water is leaking from your ceiling and it isn't raining and you don't have snow on top of your roof, there is a good chance that you have a broken water pipe and if this is the case, you need to find a water supply shut up valve and turn it off as soon as humanly possible.
Whenever you have water leaking from your ceiling, you need to stop it, immediately if possible and now you have a pretty good idea what could cause water leaks and ceiling damage. If you want to avoid problems like this in the future, I suggest that you make a home damage emergency contractors list so that you and your family are prepared. Remember, you don't ever want to find yourself in a situation that you can't control.
