A wine cellar can provide many benefits for the wine lover ranging from security to a place for storing properly favorite wines. There are many design ideas and features you can add to a wine cellar. You are really only limited by budget and space. Here are some new ideas for a wine cellar in your home.

In most houses, a wine cellar is located in the basement or sub-ground floor. This is usually to keep away light and also in a lot of cases because it's an otherwise ignored or wasted space. If have the basement area why not use it for a wine cellar? There are a wide variety of design companies available to assist you.

If you're interested in keeping wine refrigerated you can quite easily install wine fridges downstairs. As long as you have a power supply to that area or can add one, this won't be an issue. It means you can keep your storage out of the way and only come and get what you'll use in any one night.

Alternatively if you have the funding available you could look at creating a completely climate controlled room. This is a bit like having a ducted air conditioning system running and it'll keep everything at a constant temperature so you never need to worry about downstairs getting too hot or cold for the wine that is kept there.

Bigger cellars often have wine accessories also stored here along with a bench and sink so that bottles can be opened and left breathing or wine can be served for a party from this area and brought up on trays. If you like to hire catering staff for events at home you can also have them take all glassware downstairs to be washed rather than into your main kitchen.

The wine cellar can also be equipped with a small bar and stools for tastings if space allows. This is great if you entertain and really want to impress special guests with a furtive tasting.

A cellar usually starts off with some shelves that are designed to hold the wine properly. You can keep all manner of alcohol in this way and your cellar does not need to be exclusive to your wine products only. These shelving units often sit together well and you can cover all of your wall space with them as well as creating aisles if you have a lot of open space.

In older homes a deep, rich cellar can add a real air of sophistication and elegance to the house as a whole. It's a great way to play around and add a new layer of interest and your guests will always be impressed if you have a whole room devoted to your wine.

By having a wine cellar and being able to store away your wines provides added security so children cannot get to the wine. In many cases coded electronic doors are used to keep away the risk of intruders - whether they are strangers or people you know. This way, it is up to you who you show and what you show them.

Being able to keep your cellar locked will give you peace of mind if you decide to start looking into collecting wine and storing certain aged wines that are valuable. As well you will be comforted to know that your wines won't be accidentally opened or stolen by anyone.
