Home Owner Tips For New Home Owners - Furnace Filter
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Clint_Berry]Clint Berry

New home owners learn new things about home ownership every day. My most recent adventure has been with my furnace. Over the last couple of months I noticed my house had been getting very dusty, more dusty than usual. I would dust off my table and then two days later there would be a fresh layer of nasty grey particles dulling my beautiful cherry wood. I wasn't quite sure what to think, and I casually mentioned it to my father, who immediately asked me if I had changed my furnace filter. I didn't want to sound stupid, so I told him, "Not recently, would that contribute to my dust?"

Inside I was embarrassed because I have lived at my home for eighteen months and I had never changed my furnace filter. Whoops. So how often was I supposed to be changing my filter? I checked my furnace manufacturer's recommendations and found that I should be replacing my filter every three months! Double whoops. And some furnaces require that you change it every month! Eesh! So I went to change my filter and found that my builder didn't even leave me with the correct size of filter. A huge gap in the intake wasn't filtering the air at all. No wonder I had dust!

But what is the worst that could happen if I don't change my filter? A little dust never hurt anyone? Well, with a little asking around it turns out my neighbor didn't change their filter for several years and the furnace broke down and started a small fire at their house. That is scary.

Do you own rental homes? Don't worry about replacing the furnace, hire a property management company like San [http://www.rentalplacesanjose.com]Jose Property Management.
