Vessel Sinks Are More Than Just Porcelain
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Jeremy_Stanfords]Jeremy Stanfords

There are so many different styles of sinks to choose from today. Gone are the days where the only sink type that was seen in the bathroom were those built in to the vanity or countertop. Vessel sinks are not built in to any structure, but are stand-alone, where the entire sink can be visualized. These sinks are very versatile, as they come in many different materials and colors.

Of course, porcelain vessel sinks are still the most commonly seen. Many individuals prefer the clean, traditional look of the porcelain sink for their bathrooms, because porcelain not only looks great in white, it is very appealing in a variety of colors. Earth tone porcelain vessel sinks are very popular and they coordinate well with all types of decor. Porcelain is a favorite among homeowners because it is very easy to maintain and clean. It is important to note that porcelain can crack but this is not usually the rule.

Another popular material for vessel sinks is wood. Wooden sinks can warm up a bathroom and give it a cozy feel. Many people are hesitant to install a wooden sink in the bathroom because of the moisture it will be exposed to. Most manufacturers of wooden sinks treat them with special substances so that they are resistant to moisture and its negative effects on the wood. Wooden sinks are simple to clean and do not require any more care or special treatment than their porcelain counterparts.

Stone or granite is an elegant material used in the production of these sinks. Stone sinks lend a natural and outdoorsy landscape to the bathroom. They are available in many natural patterns and colors. Most stone sinks are made in earth tone colors such as brown and beige. Blue and gray stone sinks are less common, but still widely used.

Marble sinks are very elegant and their natural design is one of elegance. Marble sinks are commonly more expensive than other materials, such as the more economical porcelain; however, the effect can be dramatic. Many times marble is imported, and for this reason, can add to its expense. Great care should be taken when installing a marble sink, because it can chip easily and may be expensive to repair.

Whichever type of material the homeowner chooses for their vessel sink is irrelevant, because the beauty of these types of sinks are obvious, no matter what they are made of or what color is chosen. These sinks are especially popular in smaller bathrooms and powder rooms. Many powder rooms have very limited space, and larger vanity type sinks are not practical. The free standing sink makes the room look bigger, and allows for more space. The clean lines of this style of sink can transform an outdated bathroom into a contemporary one, easily and cost effectively.

Many people think that the cost of a bathroom update is too expensive for them. This is a misconception because often times all it takes is a simple sink update which can immediately turn an old-fashioned, dated bathroom into a modern, elegant space.
