5 Drilling Tips
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=David_Treamer]David Treamer

Most do it yourself home projects require that you drill a hole. If you are not careful then the hole you drill will not serve your purpose. Here are 5 tips to help you drill properly.

Tip #1: Know the material you are trying to drill.

Different materials require different drilling speeds. For example, metals should be drilled as high speeds while tile at moderate or slow speeds. Make sure you use the appropriate speed.

Tip #2: Take Safety Precautions.

Be careful with the drill otherwise you can hurt yourself. Most people forget that a drill is a power tool and needs to be used with care. In addition, if you drill a lot, make sure to use ear plugs since it can get very noisy.

Tip #3: Know where you are drilling.

Any time you drill in your home, you have to be careful. You don't want to accidentally cut into an electrical wire or gas line. Steer clear of all pipes and lines that are running in your home.

Tip #4: Always keep your drill bits sharp.

If you keep your bits sharp then it will take less effort to drill the hole. It will also take less power. So not only do you save yourself energy, you also save battery power if you are using a cordless drill.

Tip #5: Use the right drill bit.

Different drill bits are made for different purposes. Make sure that you use the bit that is right for your project. For example dowel bits are good for wood while high speed steel bits are good for metal.

Extra Tip: It is less expensive to purchase a drill bit set as opposed to individual bits. Read more at http://www.DrillBitSet.net
