Storm Windows Protect Your Home And Family
By Peter T. Wilson

When you live on the Gulf Coast, there is one thing as certain as death and taxes: there will be hurricanes. Hurricanes can hit that have winds with 100-plus miles per hour and these can last for hours. The rain can be fierce and tornadoes can also result from the hurricanes. The damage can be enormous from blown-out windows and rooftops.

For the people who live in this part of the country they have learned what they need to do to make sure their family and property is secured in these conditions. They have mastered the art of hurricane window protection to keep their homes safe and to keep glass and other debris from flying into their homes. They also keep the rain out and protect the inside of the home from sustaining damage.

Before a hurricane hits lumberyards and other hardware stores get great business from all the folks who are buying wood to cover their windows and doors. At the last minute people will be racing to buy plywood or particleboard to cover up their homes and small businesses. People may pay a premium in the hours before a storm to get their hands on these materials. After the storm is gone the wood must be removed and pitched.

Other people have been a little smarter about protecting themselves by installing hurricane windows or storm windows on their houses. Protective shutters are also a great option to protect one's home and keep from having to do last minute rushes for plywood. Your house is protected and ready to go before a storm hits and you only pay once, not multiple times when you try to board up your house. They are also much easier to open and close then putting up and taking off plywood. This is what you get when you install a good storm window in your home:

1. The out storm shutters will make your home look nice from the exterior and will also give you a great seal that will protect your home from debris and wind damage. When you go out of town these shutters will provide extra security to your home. You can install them on a weekend house for extra protection when you aren't using it. They are easy to use and you can even install them yourself.

2. You can find them in vinyl or in wood and they have so many styles to choose from then you will definitely find something to suit your needs. You can also pick the color to suit your home best. These are so easy to install that you will have no problem doing it as a weekend project. You can rest assured that you will be safer and your home will look great.

3. You can find rolling shutters that come in a variety of materials. The most common are vinyl or aluminum. These can also help block out the sun from your home while also protecting your home.

Installing these shutters is easy as pie and you will feel safer when you have completed the project. There are a few simple steps to take when you install your shutters.

1. First off measure the windows and remember the shape may not be exactly square. You need to measure the top and bottom of the window.

2. Put the tongue and groove boards together and then fasten them afterwards cut it ½ inch shorter than the window height.

3. Stain it or paint it

4. Use strap hinges to hang it up.
