Wonderful Safety Tips For Homeowners to Use to Prevent a House Fire
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Connor_R_Sullivan]Connor R Sullivan

Many homeowners are often surprised and then devastated when their home is destroyed by a house fire. Sometimes it is caused by carelessness like falling asleep with a lit cigarette or forgetting about a lit candle but many times it is from things you were not aware of. This article will touch on some of those things you should do to prevent a fire from happening like Cincinnati chimney repair and cleaning, Cincinnati tuckpointing, checking your clothes drier vents, rewiring old electrical lines in an older home and other things.

Many homes have fireplaces or wood burning stoves that are used frequently as an extra source of heating during the colder Winter months. With frequent use of a wood burning stove or fireplace comes some buildup of soot and other things that attach themselves to the inside of the chimney. Also, sometimes if the top of the chimney is not closed off to animals they can build small nests on the inside of the chimney too. All of these things and soot buildup can eventually catch on fire and create a huge funnel of fire that could easily cause a major house fire. To avoid this, make sure you have the chimney professionally cleaned out by a chimney sweeper on a every other year basis if you use your wood burning fireplace often.

Another high risk factor for house fires are caused from clothes dryers. The vent that attaches the dryer often gets a lot of lint trapped in it and that can build up over time and especially quickly if you wash and dry your clothes almost everyday. A lot of people clean out the lint drawer or collector but do not think about how much lint gets stuck behind the dryer in the main vent. This can be professionally cleaned out by the same people who clean out your heating registers in your house and really should be done fairly regularly. Those heating registers too can be a fire hazard with warm heat going through them and possibly igniting dust or other things that can get trapped in the vents.

Another risk factor in your home could be your electrical wiring. This is especially true in an older home where wiring was done quite differently than it is today with special coated wires to prevent sparking. If you live in an older home with original wiring it should probably be redone with wiring that is up to code today. This is a frequent cause of home fires and something that can be prevented with a bit of money to invest in it. Faulty wiring can result in a burned down home so it is important to think about.

When you buy a home, a good thorough inspector should be able to find some of these possibilities for you during the inspection. If not, it is up to you to have them checked out for the safety of you and your family. Always better to be safe than sorry.
