Texas Homeowners Maintenance Ideas
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Billings_Farnsworth]Billings Farnsworth

If you will be moving to Texas soon, you should know that your new home will have some very specific maintenance must-dos so that you and your family can be as safe and comfortable as possible in all kinds of weather. Here's a little bit about it.

-- You need to water your concrete foundation. In areas of the country where the water table is particularly low, watering a concrete pad is unheard of; but in many parts of Texas, it's a regular part of a homeowner's maintenance routine. The clay soil common to the Lone Star State is particularly vulnerable to rapid expansion and contraction which may cause the foundation of a home to settle improperly and crack. The moisture level in the soil under and around your home's foundation must be kept at just the right set point. In dry weather, you just may need to water not just the flowers, but the foundation as well!

-- Make sure all of your window screens are firmly in place. The old adage that "everything's bigger in Texas" is certainly true when it comes to bugs. The mosquitoes are big, the house flies are big, and the last thing you want is for them to invade your house. Just be sure to do a twice-yearly check on your screens and you should be able to let the breezes blow through in the fine weather without worrying about something undesirable blowing through with them.

-- Have regular HVAC maintenance done. It gets really hot in all parts of Texas, and it gets really humid too. Sometimes the only refuge from the stickiness is the comfort of your air conditioned living room. Take the time to have air conditioning professionals come out at least once a year to make sure your system is operating at peak efficiency.
