Tips on How to Make Your Home Low Maintenance
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Scott_A_Wells]Scott A Wells

Here in the UK we are well known for how house proud we are. Many of us take a great deal of pride in our homes and the appearance of them is very important to us. However keeping our homes looking in top condition is no easy task. If you are fortunate enough to be able to pay someone to maintain your house for you this is not a problem, however for many particularly in the current economic climate being able to afford to pay someone to maintain our homes for us is not possible and it is down to us to do it ourselves.

This means that often much of our free time which we would like to spend with our families and friends is actually spent maintaining our homes. This should therefore be a consideration when we are looking to buy a new house. For example a brick built property is going to require far less maintenance than a rendered property which will require painting every few years. Another high maintenance area of a property is the windows and doors. If these are timber framed then these will also require painting every couple of years to prevent them from warping or rotting.

However there are solutions which can be installed which will cut down the maintenance of your property considerably. Replacement windows which are made using UPVC frames rather than timber are much lower maintenance. In fact they only require wiping with a sponge and soapy water every so often to keep them looking as good as new, which is far less time consuming than painting. The majority of replacement windows will also be made using double glazing. Therefore you will not only benefit from replacement windows which are lower maintenance but also that are more energy efficient hence saving you money on your gas and electricity bills.

Like with replacement windows you can also reduce the maintenance of you home by installing UPVC doors. Like with the windows UPVC doors are also very low maintenance. UPVC doors come in virtually any shape so if your house is lucky enough to benefit from patio doors or French doors there are UPVC French doors or UPVC patio doors available.

Another high maintenance area of the home is the garden. For many people they get pleasure out of gardening and they do not find the maintenance of the garden a chore. However for some people the up keep of the garden is a real hassle to them. If this sounds like you then you could consider paving your garden or laying gravel as this will still look great and give usable outside space with the benefit of been very low maintenance.

Living in a nice house is something which we all aspire to do. However this does not have to mean that we spend every weekend when the weather is nice outside maintaining our homes.
