Vinyl Siding Pros and Comparisons
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Jessi_Moyle]Jessi Moyle

Vinyl siding is a great product that is low maintenance. Its popularity continues to grow every day as people discover its versatility, quality and low cost maintenance. At one time, vinyl siding looked "cheap" and was not considered attractive enough for neighborhoods. That attitude has done a complete 360 degree turnaround.

Why the change in attitude? It's because the product itself has been improved. It now comes in a variety of colors where once you were limited to white, grey or brown. It also did not stay looking new very long and was prone to buckling or warping. That's changed too. Technology has created a new PVC that is rigid and has lots of strength. When installed correctly, the odds of it warping are very small.

Vinyl siding has become so popular that the U.S. Census Bureau has reported that homeowners are choosing it two-to-one over other materials. One of the reasons it has become so popular is because it's so darn easy to maintain. You don't have to paint it and can keep it looking good by washing it once or twice a year. The new materials are weather resistant and don't fade like they used to either.

The new house vinyl people buy today has been designed to handle wind, rain, freezing weather and even intense heat. Keeping the vinyl clean only requires washing the house down with a cleaning mixture you make using common household products like water and vinegar, or water and powdered laundry detergent. If you have parts of the house which are in the shade most of the time, mold and mildew growth can be minimized by using a mixture of water and household bleach.

The one thing to keep in mind is that you should not scrub your vinyl with a stiff brush, because it will pit the PVC. When that happens, the pits can stain. Also, you need to keep an eye open for pieces of siding that may come loose for whatever reason. You should repair the vinyl right away. If it is properly installed, the chances of this happening are slim though.

It should be mentioned that there is vinyl siding paint available today. It seems like that defeats the whole purpose of using vinyl siding, but it is available. There could be situations where painting is a better alternative than replacing old siding.

The easy maintenance aspect of vinyl is by far its most attractive feature. If you've ever painted a house, you already know why this is true. But the new vinyl siding is also very attractive. You can't tell the difference between some vinyl siding and wood siding from the street. It's great to use on both new homes and to restore older high maintenance homes too.

So if you hate to paint, you should look at vinyl siding. You are going to be really surprised at what you see.
