Hurricane Window Protection Is A Must
By Jack T. Blacksmith

The most vulnerable parts of your house will be protected when you purchase hurricane windows. We all know that debris can go flying in a hurricane and if they penetrate your windows this can result in big problems. High-pressure air can break other windows or in the worst-case scenario blow off your entire roof. If you protect yourself with a good hurricane window wherever an existing window is then you will safeguard you and your family.

Picking The Best Windows

There are several important factors to keep in mind when you are looking for hurricane windows:

-Will you need a pro for the job or can you do it yourself?

-If you do it on your own it will cost less, is this possible?

-Will you need to add shutters before a storm or is everything set to go already?

-Remember every area of your house including basements, patios, your garage door and all other sensitive areas.

Why Kind Of Shutter Do You Want

Accordion Shutters

You can find accordion shutters in one or two pieces. These are affixed to the window sides and you never need to remove them. You simply unfold them and they will cover your window. They are easy to access and close in case of a storm.

Bahama Shutters

These are affixed above your windows and when they aren't being used they are propped up which also give you more relief from the sun. You simply lower them and secure them when you need to use them and this can be done simply by just one person.

Roll Down Shutters

This type of shutter is affixed above your window in an enclosed box. You simply push a button when you want them to come down and then lock them down. You get great protection from these shutters, but they are a bit pricey. Make sure to find one that has a battery back up so you can let them down even if you have lost power.

Storm Panels

These panels come in steel or aluminum and attach to your window using tracks. The pieces overlap each other to give more support. These need to be put on before a storm and it can be a bit bothersome if it is an emergency. You may also need help to do this task.

Hurricane Window Glass

You can buy special glass for further protection. This also has protection film inside. This usually used in areas that are subject to many hurricanes. You can buy this type of glass for your windows or doors. You don't need to prepare with this glass it is all ready to go. You can try to add this to your house, but it's expensive. This is best for homes yet to be built.
