Powerful Air Purification Techniques

Today's air purifiers are highly efficient and very effective, primarily due to the purification techniques utilized. The purification methods of decades ago were much less thorough than the powerful techniques that have been recently developed. The most advanced air purifiers can not only take out dust and dander, but bacteria and viruses as well. These amazing developments have provided us with cleaner and healthier air.

The most basic purification technique is known as size exclusion. That is, any particle that is above a certain size is filtered out, and the air that comes out is free of those particles. When it comes to these kinds of purifiers, the quality is dependent on the filter being able to remove the smallest things. That is, a filter that can remove particles less than a micrometer in diameter is better than one that could only remove particles that were ten micrometers and above. HEPA filters, which utilize this technique, are very precise and can remove almost one hundred percent of particles that are a fraction of a micrometer long.

This is where the general simplicity ends, and all other types of filters start to use some pretty complex technology. The next kind of purifier is an ultraviolet purifier, which blasts away bacteria and viruses with ultraviolet light. The light is of such a small wavelength that it completely sterilizes the air. Since ultraviolet light does not do much for dust particles, it is important for the air purifier to also have a regular filter that utilizes size exclusion as well.

A technology that was made well known with the Shaper Image Ionic Breeze is ionization, which involves negatively charging particles in the air and then separating them out of the air based on that charge. This works very well if it is applied correctly, but early models that used this technique released an unhealthy amount of ozone in to the air, so some air purifiers actually made the air worse. Through competition and inquiry, these inferior purifiers have been eliminated from the market, and the ones that remain are guaranteed to work well.
