We all want to feel safe and comfortable in our own home, no matter what is going on outside. Many times we focus our comfort purely on the temperature that we've set for our home. Reality is that the humidity of your home can completely throw off the comfort zone.

Professionals say that our humidity levels should be around 30 to 60 percent. Some show even a little bit lower than that. You really need to pay attention to your humidity levels because if it is too dry or too humid there can be consequences.

A home that is too humid will show it in the following ways:

- Mildew

- Dust mites

- Mold

- Allergies or asthma heighten

- Damp spots on ceilings and walls

- Ice or condensation on the inside of your windows

- Musty bad smells

- Termites and cockroaches increase

- Clammy and sweaty hands and skin

If your home is suffering from being too dry you will feel it and see it in the following ways:

- Paint cracking

- Wallpaper peeling

- Respiratory problems

- Furniture cracking and or breaking

- Chronic dry and itchy skin

- Nosebleeds

- Sore throats

- Sinus irritations

These indicators should not be ignored. If you are seeing any of these things you know that your have a humidity control problem in your home. For your own health and also for your furniture, painting, and wallpaper these things are best when checked.

Blocked ducts, boilers, air conditioners, and furnaces need to be checked as well. These things can decrease or increase the humidity in your home.

Other things that we do daily can increase the humidity. Daily tasks such as breathing, cleaning, bathing, cooking, and washers increase humidity. Sometimes it is best to bring in a humidity control professional to help us see what exactly may be causing the problem.

At times when we try to do things ourselves we can end up paying twice as much. If you see any of the above indicators in your home you know it is time to do something about it.
