Improve Before You Move
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Greg_Lavender]Greg Lavender

Don't move your house - improve your current home.

In the current economic turmoil it is much more sensible not to move house and wait until the economy picks back up and sell your house when the market reaches the next peak. If you sell now you probably won't get the true price your house deserves; you're more likely to get a price reflectively of market conditions and in effect you lose out in the property game.

People have to sell for a number of reasons some of which are forced upon them. If you are lucky enough to be in a situation where by choice you wish to move, e.g. In instances where more space is needed then it is by far the more sensible option to extend your current residency and add considerable more space and potential value in the long run. In the current market downturn if you improve your existing house to the potential it has, when the market becomes strong again you will have a house that should fetch the ceiling price for your area. If you still want to sell when the market is thriving then your house that is in immaculate condition will generally sell quicker than houses that are of a lesser standard around you. In the end it means that you won't lose out in the current housing slump.

People have to consider the current economic climate and realistically think about whether they want/need to sell their houses at the moment or hold out until the market picks up. We all know that the boom and crash culture which the UK housing market is based on will inevitably carry on and go round in circles.

The next trick is to use quality trades people - a job carried out by a professional will always look better than the highest standard DIY'er. I have recently bought a house and totally gutted it from top to bottom; working for a large construction contracting firm in the UK enabled me to gain lots of contacts which were called upon whilst I was carrying out my work. My problem started when I didn't know a plumber, so I picked one out of the local paper. I guess it was sods law that he turned out to be less than satisfactory. I realised there was no dedicated website where people can search through trades people and decide for themselves who to employ.

I thought about this for many weeks after the plumber had left the house and I couldn't get rid of the irritation when I saw wonky pipes etc. I may need to get a life! I decided to set up a website dedicated to trades people and building related companies. Trades people advertise totally free on it and in return they get half a website worth of advertising. Within this they get space for: contact details, large advert space, a photo slide show of their previous work and a feedback section. I believe it gives the customer great confidence if you can see photos of the standard of trades peoples work and they can cross reference it with relevant customer feedback.

My aim is to get as many trades people as possible to advertise on this site to effectively create the place that everyone visits to browse for trades' people with confidence.

So if you know of any trades people - please let them know about this website and make sure they add themselves!!
