Carpet Stain Removal - Butter
By James C

Carpets represent a significant investment in our homes. That is why you must take care to deal with spots as they occur. Butter is a stain that poses a difficult challenge. You must use caution to remove as much of the material as possible or you might leave a soil attracting residue. Learn how to deal with butter stains in this article.

The first thing you need to do is gather your tools. You will need dye free paper towels, a bottle of your favorite carpet spot cleaner, a citrus spotter and a solution of 1/3 vinegar and 2/3 water mixed in a spray bottle. First you want to remove as much solid material as possible with a dull spoon. Next spray the spot with your citrus spotter. Let it dwell a second and then blot it up with your paper towel. Make sure you blot, do not rub or you risk damaging the carpet. When no more butter transfers to your towel you should move on to the next step. Spray the spot with your favorite carpet spotter. Let it dwell a second and then blot it out. Repeat a few times to remove as much greasy residue as possible. The next step is to spray the spot with your vinegar solution. Spray the area, let it dwell a second and then blot it up with your towel. Repeat a couple of times. This step is to remove the residue from your spot cleaners. Finally the last step is to place a stack of towels on the spot with a weight on top. This will allow any remaining material to wick into the towels and out of the carpet. Replace the towels as they become soaked.

You are done. All you have to do is let the area dry thoroughly and you can return it to normal use. Good luck to you.
