Glass verandas are a revolutionary new home improvement product that is hitting the UK market. In fact, all over Europe people are going crazy for Glass Verandas.

Verandas (also spelt verandahs) have been around for many years often providing sheltered walkways or cover over doorways. More recently we are seeing a whole new application for these products.

Known across Europe as the Patio Roof, the Glass Veranda is now being used to provide much larger areas of shelter over the patio area or indeed, any area that you may like to sit outdoors.

The main purpose of the Veranda is to offer shelter from the weather to allow you to enjoy the outside world, even if the great British summer lets you down. With huge areas being able to be covered, and additional heating a sun protection, you can remain outdoors no matter whether it is raining, cold or even boiling hot.

Whilst the Glass Veranda can be made to be a freestanding structure, the majority of the time you will find that glass veranda will act as an extension to the home, fixing to a wall of your property. At the front edge the Veranda is supported by a number of posts. Smaller Verandas will have two posts but as there are really no width limitations, the wider the Veranda the more posts you will need at the front.

At the wall edge the veranda needs no posts down the wall keeping the entire area underneath free from obstacles. A slope from the wall to the font edge of the veranda allows water to run off and helps keep the roof clean. Guttering can be used across the front of the veranda to stop the rain falling down the front.

It is recommended that laminated safety glass is used on all Glass Verandas. There has been known instances of birds dropping small pebbles or stones from great heights. This could cause a whole glass panel to shatter dangerously over your patio area. Safety glass prevents this from happening by not only protecting the glass but also stopping it shattering in the even of something large falling on it.

When choosing a Veranda it is wise to look for quality as this will most likely be a permanent addition to your home and you will want it to not only look good, but also be maintenance free for many years. Choosing thicker glass, higher quality powder coating and the best quality aluminum for the frame work will ensure your Veranda looks great, years down the line.
