The most important thing to remember is safety. Be sure that all electricity is turned off at the source and wear rubber boots and gloves before entering your home or business. They will absorb moisture and ruin the baseboards and sheet rock. Remove any other wet items out of the house. It can be difficult and expensive to clean and remove once there.
