Of Installation Woes and Closet Organizers
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=James_Wallace]James Wallace

Have you ever purchased something like a closet organizer and taken it home believing that your closet woes were finished only to be emotionally beaten because installation was a real bugger? If only it said somewhere on the box, "Installing this item will take the rest of your day." This article presents no real solution to the problem, only an awareness that installation may take longer than you expected.

Closet Organizer Installation Time Line

If you bought a complete closet organization system, one that comes with racks, shelves, rods, and hangars, then expect to spend at least an hour. Some people who make and sell closet organizers claim that they can be installed in about thirty minutes. While that is probably true for someone who has installed 1000 of them, it is not true for you.

If you are installing a new closet organizer, then chances are you will need to remove your old one (even if the old one only consists of a rod and shelf). This alone could take you about 15 minutes as you fumble around trying to think of ways to get them down without destroying your closet wall. Some closet organization manufacturers suggest a crow bar! Good luck getting your old rod and shelf down without doing some damage to the rest of the closest. Tip: a hammer and a flat pry par may be your best option for removal.

After you finally get your old items out, it is time to open the box(es) for the new closet system. You will spend 5 minutes trying to do it with your hands before you realize that this is physically impossible. Another 5 minutes debating what you should use to open the box and another 5 minutes tracking down the tool needed to open the box. At this point you are already thirty minutes in and you haven't even officially started installation. So much for thirty minute installation.

After everything is emptied out of the boxes (another 5 minutes) you look for the instructions. Here, you spend 20-30 minutes trying to make sense out of the instructions that have either (a) been written by someone whose native language isn't English or (b) is for a slightly different model so the pieces don't exactly match up with yours.

At this point, it is recommended that you spend 10 minutes or so calming down as you are probably pretty angry that you have already spent an hour and have absolutely nothing to show for it.

Back to the closet organizer installation. You spend the next hour trying to guess where the parts should go, chasing down the necessary tools, and muttering to yourself about how much you hate the company that made the wretched closet organizer. This thought crosses your mind several times (How could all these intelligent engineers not come up with something more user friendly?).

When all is said and done, you will likely have spent at least an hour, probably two and you will have accomplished what you set out to do. Although this accomplishment is rewarding, you'll spend the next few days wondering if the closet organizer was installed correctly. Welcome to the real world of installation.
