Winter is nearly here and it's time for savvy home decorators to spruce up their homes for the season. You don't have to create a personal winter wonderland to get in the spirit of the season (although you certainly could if you wanted).

Many people find winter to be their favorite time of year and this is also a very popular time for visiting family and having people over. What better reasons do you need to decorating your home for winter?

If you're not sure how to get started or exactly what you need to do to decorate your home for winter, I have some great ideas. First, you need to take down any fall decorations you still have up.

It's time to throw out the pumpkins and the cornucopias and any other fall or Thanksgiving themed items you have and start fresh with a winter theme. When you're ready to get started decorating, you need to decide on a color scheme.

Red, green and gold have long been recognized as Christmas colors and winter blues, silver and even white can be great to decorate your home for winter. You may decide to use one color scheme in one and another in a different room. Writing down all of your ideas will help you keep track.

Another great idea for decorating a winter home is to bring on the candles. The more the merrier when candles are concerned this season so don't be shy. You can use candles in winter colors and scents to help set the mood in the mood and to help your home feel cozy during the colder months.

Using ribbons and pine accents in your home décor this season is also popular. Pine cones, pine baskets and pine boughs make great accessories. Ribbons are also great in all shapes, sizes and colors.

Christmas or holiday lights are great for this season as well and you're not restricted to just your tree or even the outdoors. You can hang lights in your windows or just string them up around a room to add that extra wintery feel.

Winter is the time for wreaths. You can hang one on your door and hang them up around your home as well. Wreaths come in all types of shapes and sizes and you can even make your own for that personal, handmade touch.

Using all of these tips and suggestions in your own way, with a dash of creativity to boot, you can create your own personal winter space at home this season. Create a place that you feel good being in and that you will enjoy inviting friends and family to.
