Ever since glass was invented, man has added on various new uses for it. While in the past, glass was only used for making containers to store different solids and liquids, the modernization phase has brought glass into the forefront and glass is now used to create innumerable items that not only look good but are also functional.

In the commercial and corporate world, you will find that glass has not only made its entry by firmly positioning itself in all the shop frontages and doors but has even started replacing the outer walls of many large and medium corporate companies. Many of these buildings have now turned into iconic landmarks in many cities all around the world. These glass walls and doors are constructed in a frameless manner and contain hard-to-see hinges and brackets and thus seem to be suspended on thin air. Toughened glass doors also adorn such buildings and while some doors swing open to welcome staff and visitors, others slide open magically as soon as they observe anyone approaching. The interiors of such buildings also feature glass partitions in plain or tinted glass, which not only provide privacy but are also easy to clean and maintain. The right size and positioning of glass and mirrors in any office or store can also make the place look bigger and roomier than it actually is.

On the home front too, glass has made its presence felt in an increasing number of pleasing ways. Leadlights are slowly replacing plain glass windows and partitions and therefore converting any ordinary sheet of glass into a work of colorful art. Glass leadlight doors too are converting staid entrances to homes and turning them to a warm and intriguing entryways. While the kitchen has always been the focal point of domestic glassware, the bathroom too is turning stylish and chic with the incorporation of glass shower screens. These screens not only look stunning but also help contain the water that is splashed around during a bath thereby increasing the level of safety. Of course, the humble mirror in the bathroom might not have changed much over the years, but the size and frames certainly have.

The exterior of the house has also heralded in additional use of glass and you can now get glass pool fences that will restrict the water to the pool and its immediate surrounding, thus increasing the safety aspect as well as increasing the visual appeal of your pool. Glass balustrades also provide the right look to any balcony, handrail, landing or internal stairs. Thus, glass has now morphed functionality with aesthetic appeal and the right use of glass can save energy and also look stunning at the same time. The advantage of a clean installation and the option of getting it repaired and replaced easily is one more point in its favor.

Glass has certainly evolved over the years and almost all finished products now contain glass in some form or the other. The ability of experts to contort glass into mind-boggling shapes, colors and sizes and to also impart a factor of safety into them has seen the transparent rise of this material literally to new heights.
