Helpful Tips For Installing Architectural Columns

Wow man! Architectural columns can definitely change the feelappearnce of a home. In other words, they are applicable in a simple dwelling and give it that million dollar look if they are installed correctly. However; be forewarned that installing architectural columns can be very frustrating and labor intensive.

Your Going to Need Help

At the outset, you are required to have a minimum of 3 individuals to handle the set up process. That is one person to hold the top, one person to carry the bottom and one man to shove it around and undertake the necessary adjustments.

Creative Bracing Techniques

If it's made of composite material you are unable to nail into one, because that can cause damage, so you should rig up a 2x4 box assembly to wrap around it to nail your braces to. If this doesn't work, try enclosing it with large rope that you can wire your braces to, once it is set in place.

Letting them Stay Permanently Put

Binding them to the dwelling may mean a good target or an overlooked operation. They will have caps and bases that go with them but eventually you must apply some imaginative engineering with the application of heavy duty binder like epoxy or cement.

They Are Non Structural

Remember that they are classified as "architectural", non structural, so regardless of architectural column appearing to be binding something up, actually has a 4x4 or a 6x6 running up the center of it. This is the reason why the most appropriate time to install this type of column is during the initial framing phase of the home.

Take Your time and Be Patient

Try not to get too disappointed when putting in architectural columnssince even experienced builders incline to fear working with them. They are big, unwieldy and seem to have a way of being the most difficult when you least need it. Lastly, after your job is done make sure you wrap and protect all of your architectural columns, so they are not touched by individuals working on the rest of the home.
