A To-Do List For Vehicle Storage - Important Things to Remember
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Talia_Davison]Talia Davison

If you are preparing to store a vehicle then you must be aware that it can sustain real damage if it is not stored correctly. This particularly holds true if the vehicle is being stored in a region that is prone to harsh weather conditions. Believe it or not, it is the invisible moisture that is in the air that poses the most serous risk to a stored vehicle.

Ambient Moisture and Rodents

Moisture that is contained in rain or snow can be easily dealt with by covering he vehicle with a car cover. However; ambient moisture is much more difficult to deal with. Also, another problem that many people don't anticipate is rodents, such as mice, rats and squirrels making a home on their stored vehicle.

Get Some Boxes of Mouse Poison

A stored vehicle makes an excellent home for rodents because it has everything that they need. Shelter, fibers to make a nest with and plenty of plastic wires to chew on. Simply place a few boxes of mouse poison in the vehicle and also under the hood on top of the motor to take care of rodents.

A Few More Things to Do

Before you store you vehicle you should change the oil and filter, as well as the radiator fluid and make sure that there is plenty of anti-freeze in the radiator as well. Another thing to remember to do is to remove each spark plug and pour about a tablespoon of oil into each cylinder. Then remove the main wire from the distributor and turn the key so the oil is distributed around the valves and cylinders.

A Few More Things to Do

Of course, the spark plugs will now be coated with oil as well, so you will want to take them off and clean them before you attempt to start the vehicle. It also helps to flush out the brake fluid with new fluid if the vehicle is an older vehicle. Another thing to think about is to fill the tank completely with gas to inhibit water condensation.
