The essentials of allergic mattress covers cannot be overlooked in this modern age when we are battling vermin attacks from all sides. Allergies are hard realities and there are many who find it difficult to rest and sleep because of it. It leads to frequent attacks of sneezing, running nose, hay fever and all kinds of itching that break into rashes. There are more serious types of allergic reaction like asthma.

The bed that is supposed to be a restful haven is more often than not the happing hunting ground for allergy causing mites and dust. There are many kinds of allergic mattress covers in the market but it is well to remember that there is no one silver bullet for specific needs.

The allergic mattress covers are produced in a fully sterile factory. The materials are special - will not itself cause irritation to the skin. It allows for better sleep but does not guarantee that all types of allergies will vanish. Mother Nature is difficult to defeat.
Thus apart from using these special covers it is advisable to take the usual precautions against recurrence of allergies.

These hypo-allergenic mattresses are futile against airborne pollen, fungus, mould and dust that cause allergies. This means that the home has to be kept clean and bedding changed frequently despite the use of allergic mattress covers. Allergies also creep in through air ducts. Apart from these normal precautions, allergic mattress covers are great for a good nights sleep.

Basically in the market today three types of materials are used for allergic mattress covers - vinyl, polyurethane laminates and micro-fibre.

The oldest ones are vinyl and the name jumps to the mind whenever one thinks of anti-allergic covers. These are not costly but effective. The problem is that it is stiff, sweaty and rather noisy. Consequently users remove them after a day or two of use. These are best for covering spring mattresses. The sleeper is not in direct contact and hence the problem of comfort does not arise.

The next generation of allergy mattress covers is laminated encasings. It consisted of fusing or laminating a plastic kind of membrane to a fabric. The fabric side is exposed while the plastic side faces the pillow. Her there is no direct contact of the user with the plastic. But other problems have made this outdated.

To some extent these too are stiff and not only are allergy proof but are also airtight. Zipped around a pillow the latter becomes something like a balloon! The last but not least problem is that repeated laundering leads to de-lamination. All these difficulties have been overcome in the latest micro-fibre allergy mattress covers. These are breathable but do not allow allergens entry.

Thus it makes sense to buy of allergic mattress covers especially if you are prone to allergies.
