Plumbers, Carpenters, and Electricians Can Make Your Home Renovation a Nightmare
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Jeff_Dane_Brown]Jeff Dane Brown

Plumbers, Carpenters, and Electricians are often needed for home renovations and their services can be expensive. Depending on the amount of home renovation you are doing you may need to hire a plumber, carpenter, electrician and so on. This is especially true when you need to abide by building codes in your country. Below are some ideas you should consider before hiring a professional to do your home renovation.

Given the way we work today I think time is an important factor we need to consider first. I have often found that the less time a contractor takes to finish a job, the more he wants to be paid. I on the other hand, am always looking for a bargain. I try to find common ground between the two when I make my decision to hire. In regards to time, I think it is really essential to be honest with yourself. Do you really want a crew of workmen around your house for a long time? Then there is Murphy's Law where you hire a contractor for a bargain price per hour and he takes forever to complete the job. These are concerns you should take in consideration, before you go into the next phase of actually hiring workmen.

Now that you know the direction you want to follow the next step is the planning stage. There are computer programs all over the internet that will help you do this. I on the other hand prefer the old fashion way of using pen and paper. Whatever method you use, try and be honest with yourself on the amount of money you can really afford for your project.

If you are planning a large home renovation I think it wise that you do two things. First, contact a real estate person in your area and ask if your home renovation will increase the value of your home. Next actually get your home appraised. Getting your appraised can really help you in two ways. First, it will help you get a loan at the bank to finance your home improvement project. Secondly, the appraisal should be a good yardstick regarding the benefit of going ahead with your home improvement.

Common thought is that you should not go over 30% of the value of your home. But what if you have lived in your home many years and you want to stay there regardless of the 30% rule? Here is what my real estate person told me. "You're not likely get the money back that you put into the renovation on your house for at least 5 years." He went on to say that if want to live in your home comfortably, then why not go ahead with renovating your home. Exactly, and that's what I did. I went ahead with my home renovation even though I was over the 30% rule. Around 35% to be exact.

I remember the time when all you had to do to find a trades person was pick up the Yellow Pages. I often used the Yellow Pages to find jobs. It was such a good resource. Things have changed nowadays and often when a person needs a builder, plumber, carpenter and so on the first thing they do is go their computer and search online. There are even websites that have their own search engines to help you find the right trades person for your home improvement project. I have even found a few human resource type sites whereby the owner can provide feedback or a testimonial regarding the quality and the amount of time it took to finish the project.

Some countries like Australia have Building Directories where you can search for the right person or company to give you an estimate for the work you need done. I remember the old commercial about the Yellow Pages. "Let your fingers do the walking through the Yellow Pages." I suppose now we could be saying, "let your mouse do the clicking through the [http://thebuildingdirectory.com.au/]Building and Renovation directories.

Good luck with your home renovation or improvement project, your plumbers, carpenters and electricians.
