Slatwall Versus Other Walls in Home Building

What is a slatwall? Other names that you may have heard slatwall referred to as are slatboard or grooved board. How is it made? Well, they take a panel and a backer sheet. There are added aluminum supports that are called extrusions as well. Most walls are ready to be painted unless they are wood veneer and of course the grooves are normally an angled T-groove.

Inside of the slatwall there is what they call inner bonding. It is made so that the wall will be able to handle stress and remain whole. The higher the inner bonding range the better the wall is and the more it will hold up to.

How about the hanging strength? This will depend on how lose you hang the panels to each other. Of course the further apart they are the less weight that can be supported. It depends. A good example is that of 12 inches of bracket will support about 56 pounds.

The panels come in different options as far as look, such as metal or perhaps a wood veneer, or other designer textures. Most standard panels will be able to be painted on and of course you will be able to choose any color.

At times, to add strength to the wall, groove channels are used. They may be used as a method of decoration too. At times the channels are made in different colors to add more color and a nice decorative look to the wall.

There are numerous styles of finish you can get in a slatwall, of which there are seven categories. First is Formica finish. Low-pressure laminates are available in different colors. Next is standard, which are ready to be painted by the customer. There are also unfinished wood veneers, mirrored, and lastly textured.

As you can see you have a lot of choices if you want to panel your room with slatwall. It is not as plain as drywall and can in fact be much nicer than a drywall wall that has only been painted. It's very easy to put in place and, as stated above, it will generally be able to support extra weight very easily if installed properly.

So if you're looking for a way to remodel your home, look into slatwalls and perhaps your home will be transformed so much it will be like moving into a totally different house. Good luck in your decision making for your project.
