Luxury Pillow Buying Guide
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Matthew_J_Evans]Matthew J Evans

It is a well known fact that the average person will spend approximately one third of their life asleep, having a comfortable and good quality pillow is therefore important.

Choosing a pillow is subjective and depends on each individual needs and with so much choice, buying a pillow can seem quite difficult. A pillow is used to support and cushion the sleepers head and the prime quality of pillows is resilience. The wide range can make it difficult to choose so here are the keys you must know before you choose:

Every sleeper seems to have a different idea of the most comfortable kind of support. The answer to this is flexibility as you may want your pillow to be soft and firm, thick or thin during one night sleep. Down and Feathers bring the highest degree of flexibility as they are naturally soft and resilient. Down and Feathers offer the best resilience and durability for pillow filling.

Feathers are two dimensional flat structures that do not show much tendency to compress as they are hard. However, down is incredibly soft and does compress so it doesn't have the same supportive effect as feathers. All this means that a higher percentage of down should be used for the pillow to be soft and a higher percentage of feathers should be used for the pillow to be firm. This should therefore answer the question: Do I prefer a firm pillow that will offer me support or a soft pillow that will offer me comfort?

However in order to buy the right pillow the buyer should be attentive to the detail of construction as well as the filling. The choice of casing for a pillow should be the ticking fabric. The importance of the construction of pillows should mainly be with the edge seams as pillows undergo heavy use. There are three ways pillows are sewn: corded, non-corded and Serged seamed. The best which is more effective and more durable is the corded seam as it offers the optimal combination of features however it is the most expensive to make-up as it uses a separate cord creating a bond edge which protects the thread and keeps down and feathers away from the seam. The corded seam is associated with the best pillows available on the market.

As with everything you get what you pay for so if you are looking for resiliency and quality, it is important to invest in a more expensive pillow rather than buying cheaper that after 3-6 months will become flat and will require to be replaced more often.

If you're sharing your bed with a partner, different pillow specifications suit each individuals in various forms, so you must ensure that each of you choose for your own pillow to get one for your individual needs.

In general you may have to replace your pillow every two years however it does depend on many different criteria like your pillow fill, your pillow construction, your size or even the care for the pillow. The expected life span of your pillow will really depend on what material is used and the quality of it.
