How to Find and Hire Reliable Contractors

Don't get stung by a rotten contractor. Do Your Homework! One of the biggest complaints these days is about contractors who fail to perform. Either they aren't qualified, don't show up, or simply rip you off. Contractors for the most part, are unregulated.
Sure, some states have licensing bureaus, but a contractors license is not an assurance that a person is qualified to do the task and even if he/she is qualified, it doesn't mean their workmanship is any good.
If you want to be sure that you are getting a quality job, ask for referrals on similar types of work. Many people mistakenly think a contractor can do any job. Nothing can be further from the truth.
I suggest you start by asking friends and family for recommendations of contractors they've used in the past. Be sure they've used these people and that their not just throwing out names of friends or acquaintances. I cannot tell you how many times I've received a call from a customer who is at their ropes end. The conversation usually begins with a panic in their voice and goes something like this...
