Making Your House a Home
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Virgil_Smith]Virgil Smith

This will be the first in my upcoming series on Home Improvement. I hope that my articles will help you and inspire you, to not only beatify your home but, to enjoy being able to do many things on your own with my guidance. This article will focus on many of the small things you can do that will make a big difference in beautifying your home.

Even with today's economy most Americans know that the best investment they could make is in their homes. Monies spent on any home improvements, repairs or additions increases the value of your home and are tax deductible. If you are about to sell your home you want to make the house as appealing and well kept as you can because not only will that better your chances that people who see will like it but you can get more for your home.

Sometimes the smallest investment will make a big difference, in the look and in the value of your home. If you have light switch covers that are yellow and/or dirty, painted over or painted on, changing them will make the walls look better. Also change the old outlet covers. Both are simple to do if you have a small screwdriver. Many of these covers have from one to four screws to remove from the old cover and new screws to replace the new cover.

Next: Change door knobs and locks. If you are in the process of selling your home this is an investment the will impress any prospective buyer. It shows that you are concerned about the security and safety of the house. Shiny new hard ware on all the doors will look real nice to.

Change light fixtures and light bulbs. Many of the new lighting fixtures on the market today are more energy efficient. A new light fixture would do a lot towards making the house look clean and well maintained. Using the right bulbs for these fixtures saves energy and produces a better quality light. If you do not like working on ladders, or you have a fear of electricity, this is something best left to a tradesman.

Change the handles on your kitchen cabinets. Even if your cabinets are fairly new the handles could be a little worn. There are lots of handles to choose from, you do not have to use the same handles again, unless you want to. Also, check all the hinges to make certain the screws are tight and the doors wont come down.

Another excellent investment in your home is the bath room hardware and accessories. Changing the sink faucet, toilet handle, shower heads, shower faucet and handles, helps the bathroom look newer. Change the towel racks and soap dishes, if they are ceramic and are cracked and old, they to can be replaced. Kitchen faucets and drain would make a good impression, and most of these thing should be done by home owners at least once every year or two.

If you are selling or you just love your home. The investment you make will be a comfort to you any way you look at it. If you have any questions about home projects, or repair, please feel free to call: VFS Home Improvement at: 718-209-0462. or e-mail me at: vfsmt@aol.com
