5 Things to Consider When Picking a Local Tradesman
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Michelle_Devos]Michelle Devos

The need of a local tradesman is often encountered in one's day to day life. Plumbers, electricians, gardeners, pest controllers, painters, landscapers and other tradesman are needed to make that place of yours a better place! While there are several ways to go about picking plumbers or electricians or landscapers or painters or pest controllers or gardeners, the 'right' way out of these is not completely unanswerable.

With the advent of internet, one has the option of going online for the hunt. All the local plumbers, the local electricians, the neighborhood painters, the local gardeners, the pest controllers, the local landscapers can all be found by typing few words on a reliable website. Their contacts are displayed on the website and can be used to one's use. No, these websites don't charge you anything for that!

Let's generalize the search and make a list of 5 things to consider when picking a local tradesman. These 5 things will be a common one for all the tradesman and not plumbers in particular or electricians or landscapers or painters or pest controllers or gardeners in particular. So the 5 things are as follows

1. Skill or quality- Any tradesman would be or should be known for his skill. To judge a skill is difficult (mind you, the tradesman won't be giving an audition for you!). However, an account of the tradesman work can be a testimony. The references of previous works can be asked for, from the tradesman. It would be ideal in case of bigger projects. (The lighting of a new floor above to an electrician etc)

2. Reliability- Its another key factor unless you want to end up with cheap quality goods or products used for the work done or you don't want to end up being fooled by paying much more than its worth. Again, the past is always an ideal reference along with other references, if possible.

3. Budget - Your budget actually comes first. Right? Be it a plumber or an electrician or a landscaper or a gardener or a pest controller or painter; make sure 'estimation' is given to you and check it is it well inside your budget. Keep a reserve of 10% of your budget for chances of an increase in the total costs.

4. Time constraints -This one too is quite important. What if you need the work to be done by a fortnight and the tradesman needs a month for the same work? Make sure about the period of time. 'Discuss and decide' is the guideline here.

5. Flexibility - the flexibility of the tradesman is quite important too. Be it plumbers or electricians or gardeners or pest controllers or painters or landscapers, a bit of flexibility is required in them and their work (regarding finances, quality, changes etc). Discuss with them about it before hand.

So, the next time you need plumbers or electricians or painters or pest controllers or landscapers you can just take 5 things into consideration and have a smooth experience with the tradesman.
