The Types of Air Purifiers
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Cathy_Byrd]Cathy Byrd

There are many types of air purifier available in the market out there. Let's just take a look at some of them what make them different from each other.

Filter-based purifiers

Filter based purifiers are air purifiers that use filters that are specially placed to remove air particles from the air as it is passed through the filters via a ventilation system. Normal air purifiers use HEPA filters which are able to filter between 0.3 micrometer and larger.

Activated Carbon based air purifiers

Activated carbon is a porous material that changes chemicals in the air from a gaseous state into a solid state, and then removes it from the air. However, usually activated carbons are rarely a stand alone product as solidified chemicals tend to return into the air after being aggravated.

Photo catalytic Oxidation systems

Photo catalytic oxidation systems remove particles in the air through oxidizing the particles and degrading them completely. Though considered to be effective, this type of air purifier is costly and requires to be installed in a large scaled setting to bring full effectiveness.

Ionizer purifiers

These purifiers use electric charged surfaces or needles that emit electrically charged ions that will attract particles and stick to a collector plate. These purifiers are controversial and have been shown to produce minor amounts of ozone gases that are harmful to the body in the long run.

Ozone generators

Ozone generators are typically commercial air purifiers specializing in the removal of odors that are difficult to remove. They produce a large amount of oxidant gases and then oxidize certain chemicals in the air. Ozone generating air purifiers are still very controversial.
