Do You Have Mold In Your Home?
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Shawn_E_Garza]Shawn E Garza

If you have a place in your home where you a substance that looks like mold, the best thing you can do is call in a certified mold inspector who will have the substance tested by a reputable, accredited laboratory. Barring that, you can take a sample yourself and send it to a laboratory yourself. If the lab results are positive for mold, call in a reputable mold remediation professional.

You can find accredited microbiology labs at the American Industrial Hygiene Association's website

To sample the substance, follow the steps below and send the sample to your lab of choice.

MICROBIOLOGY TAPELIFT SAMPLING PROCEDURE

1. Take a 2 inch piece of transparent tape. Avoid touching the sticky side, especially the part touching the mold.

2. Wearing gloves, apply the central inch of tape to the suspect area (choose one that is free of extraneous debris.) Apply light pressure to the non-adhesive side.

3. Pull tape off surface with slow, steady pressure, holding the tape edges only.

4. Apply sticky side of tape flatly to the inside of the plastic bag.

5. Ensure there are no folds or creases in the tape and never fold tape back onto itself.

6. Close bag.

7. Put only one sample in each bag and label bag.

Note: Tape must be absolutely transparent. Magic or Frosted tape is not acceptable for this application.

The rule of thumb is IF you have mold, get rid of it. Keep in mind that not all mold is toxic, so there is no need to panic. Contact a local mold remediation professional for a consultation.
