Twice is Better Than Once
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Linda_Lin]Linda Lin

Double duty, reversible, jack of all trades, two-in-one, all terms that tell you -- you are getting your money's worth. How many things in your life can you use for more than one purpose? What is your recyclable-intelligence-quotient? Look around you in your own apartment or home. Are you seeing a pattern there? Can you use your items for more than one purpose? And, if so, for what? This is an ongoing experiment and we would like you to write and give us your opinions.

Meanwhile, here are some thoughts on double-purpose items and similar objects in your home. Here are some things that I have found that have double purposes or that save money.

Flying disks - These toys or sports-like flat discs are fun to throw and play games with. Other purposes are paper-plate holders. Use a plastic disc under your paper plate to support the plate.

Chopsticks - These are not just for Chinese Food. There are special chopsticks that you can use in your hair. You can use chopsticks as a diet aid. (One of the best dieting tips is to slow down when you are eating. However, in our fast society, everything shouts, hurry up. That hurry up attitude is instilled in us since we were children. By learning to use chopsticks and by using them at most meals, you generally are forced to slow down. That will help you lose weight. In the oriental countries and in the East, most people do not use chopsticks for American food, but you, being an original, make your own rules. Purchase some chopsticks and use them for every single meal. These are great dieting aids. Have you ever tried to use chopsticks to eat ice cream or pizza?

Toilet Tissue - The end bits of the toilet tissue, when it gets down to those last squares of paper, come in handy when camping out. Instead of buying special toilet tissue rolls for a dollar or more, save your own toilet tissue (from your home) and every time the roll gets down really low, take it off and put it in your camping gear bag. You will save money and you will always have what you need for camping.

Ironing Board -- Have you stopped ironing? Did you go on strike and have no need for that old adjustable ironing board? Do not throw it out. You can use this ironing board (with a nice cover) for a makeshift desk or table. It is convenient. It folds out of the way. And you can use it as an extra table during an outdoor or indoor party. (Do not place extremely heavy objects on this table; remember it is still an ironing board). You can use it in the attic or cellar for storing items. If you live in a flood area, use your ironing board as a platform in the basement to bring the boxes off the floor. Then when the next flood hits, your papers will be dry as a bone because they are not on the floor where most of the flood waters cover your possessions.

Fold-up tables -- These folding snack tables make great party tables if you live in a small apartment. Instead of storing a huge dining room table for parties, have four or five folding tables and place them strategically around the room when you are entertaining. These fold-up tables, the stronger ones are great lap-top desks also.

Foam Holders -- Do you have foam holders (the kind people use for keeping soda cans ice cold) that you no longer need? Use these to protect the long lenses of cameras. The camera equipment protectors are very expensive and these foam holders seem to be just as protective, if not more.

These are just some of the double-duty items that you might have in your home already. I hope this has been helpful to you.
