The New Kid on the Block - Far Infrared Saunas
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Thomas_Oak]Thomas Oak

As technology advances, there are more and more innovations in many products, including saunas. Far infrared units are the newest variations of saunas, and they allow you to take session very easily within the comfort of your own home. This type of technology is still new and even some enthusiasts are not sure what to make of it. A lot of people are confused as to whether they are indeed effective, and how they work. Nonetheless, they are very beneficial, and the purpose of this article is to explain their benefits in some detail.

Far infrared saunas are different than conventional units. They work not by ambient heat, as with traditional units, but by using a kind of penetrating or radiant heat. What this means is that you place yourself within the unit, and the infrared lights will emit radiant heat specifically attracted to people and objects. Those well-versed in this type of technology say that the water in your body's cells match the frequency emitted by the far infrared energy. This means that your body absorbs heat specifically directed at it, known as "resident absorption." As this happens, toxins in those cells are removed and go to the bloodstream, where they are excreted through sweat, and in some cases, urine.

This type of radiant therapy is dry and does not produce steam. Nonetheless, the far infrared rays penetrate your skin to a depth of about one to three inches. This also has a beneficial effect on your muscular tissues and other lean tissue mass, including the traditional benefits which include detoxification. In fact, many people 50 years and up prefer this type of heat because it is much cooler and less stressful in some ways than steam saunas are. It is also beneficial for those who have asthma or for those who would otherwise find sitting in a hot room difficult.

Far infrared units have purported benefits, including: strengthening the immune system, detoxification, stress relief, control of weight gain and perhaps weight loss, removing cellulite, cardiovascular conditioning, easing of muscle tension including back pain, and rejuvenating skin, among other benefits. It may also even be of benefit, if some claims are true, to certain types of cancer.

If you're not sure whether you should use this type of sauna or a more conventional one, here are some tips to help you decide. This type of "dry" sauna is a new innovation, but is comparable in price to a DIY kit. Some say that it can heat up your body and excrete toxins up to three times more effectively than a traditional one can. This can mean that it has even more benefits than a traditional unit for your health and body.
