Three Easy-To-Do Items for Your Home Maintenance Checklist
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Scott_Groth]Scott Groth

Do you look around your house and wish you had time to take care of all the little things that need fixing? One way to stay on top of the small stuff is to develop a Home Maintenance Checklist. Every time you notice something that needs doing, add it to your checklist. Then you can simply work down the checklist every time you are in the mood or have some time to do a little home maintenance.

On mild weather days you can work through the outside jobs that need attending to on your checklist. On days that are too cold or too hot to be outside you can work off the checklist items that apply to the inside of your home.

Here are three easy-to-do items to add to your home maintenance checklist:

1. Replace Furnace Filters and Check and Clean Heating and Cooling Vents. Keeping your heating and cooling system clean and free of dust build up is a must for better health and helps to keep allergies and dust mites at bay. Replacing your furnace filter every 3 months improves the air circulation in your home and also helps your furnace and air conditioner operate efficiently.

2. Clean the Refrigerator - no, we don't mean the inside of your fridge (although you might need to do that as well!) - we mean on the outside. If you have a refrigerator that has coils in the back, you should slide the refrigerator out and vacuum the coils periodically. You will improve the energy efficiency or your appliance if you keep the coils clean. While we have you thinking efficiency, you should also check the door seals to make sure they are tight.

3. Inspect the Detectors - you probably have several detectors in your home for carbon monoxide, radon and fire. It is a good idea to have a smoke alarm in each bedroom (in some areas this is a code requirement). Replace batteries at least once a year in these devices that are designed to save your life. If you have a burglar alarm, you should also replace the batteries in your burglar alarm devices if you want to be sure they will function when needed.

With a little thought and planning, keeping up with home maintenance doesn't have to be a chore. By developing a Home Maintenance Checklist and checking off each item as you get them done it will be much easier to keep track of what you have done and what you need to do.
