Tips on Finding and Hiring a General Contractor
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Donald_Precio]Donald Precio

If you are considering hiring a general contractor to do a job for you then there are few things that you will want to take into consideration before you begin your search. The one thing that is going to have the highest impact on the labor charges that any contractor is going to charge you is the prevailing "building climate" in your surrounding community.

If building is "booming" and there are plenty of jobs available then his labor costs are going to be high. If building is "slow" and the general economy is stagnant then contractors in your area will be "hungry" and ready to bargain. The best indicator of how a contractor is going to treat you and your job once the work has begun is to see how he has treated other people and jobs in the past.

Beware of general contractors that claim to be "Christians" and have the bumper stickers on their truck to prove it, as this is a sucker trick that got worn out decades ago. Before you begin to interview any contractor you will want to have a specific written plan that includes a complete set of blue prints in your hand.

Any general contractor that is willing to talk specifically about any aspect of your job including price without seeing a set of plans should be called into question. There are many ways to track down a good qualified contractor and one good way is to find homes in your community that were recently built or are currently being built and work from there.

Examine their work and ask the homeowners if there were any problems while their home was being built. You will want to know if he and his crew showed up every day or if their job sat "stagnant" while he was working on other jobs. Also, you will want to know if his final job was good and things such as all the windows and doors functioned correctly and if there is anything that he left incomplete.
