The demand for electricity is soaring virtually everywhere you look. Not only is the price of all fuels rising, so is the risk for blackouts.
Economic growth is one of the main drivers of this demand not only in the United States, but also in Europe, Asia, India, and China. The use of DVD's, appliances, TV recorders, and other devices designed to use power 24 hours a day could account for 3 to 13 percent of residential power use. This percentage is expected to increase as more people use home and office computer networks.
The demand for electricity in China continues to climb every year. The power demand in India is controlled through power constraints, whereas, in Asia and Japan the demand is on the rise. In Europe, occasional blackouts have occurred due to supply problems. In the U.S. many regions have been registering significant growth even before the peak summer temperatures.
To reduce the chances of rolling blackouts in the future, let's explore other ways to save on the use of electricity.
Takes these steps to save money and reduce the amount of energy you use:
1. Lower your thermostat. You will save on your heating bill for every degree you dial down.
2. Add an extra blanket to your bed.
3. Set your water heater temperature at 120 degrees.
4. Clean or replace the furnace filer often.
5. Replace weather stripping and seals on windows and doors
6. Keep furniture, carpeting and curtains from blocking heat registers and air return ducks.
If you live in a climate where it snows during the winter months, don't forget to check on your elderly neighbors to make sure they are warm.
