Build a Sauna with Modular & Pre-Cut Sauna Kits
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Kevin_Urban]Kevin Urban

Recent years have seen a spike in the number of privately installed sauna kits. For those who enjoy the relaxing, therapeutic properties of regular heat sessions, the appeal of building their own sauna can't be denied. No more racing back and forth to the gym - a home sauna allows you to indulge anytime your schedule permits. Plus, there are the added benefits of complete privacy and decreased proliferation of bacteria. Seen by many as a symbol of upscale status, a sauna built from a kit can also add to the value of your home, making it more attractive to prospective buyers.

If you're an experienced carpenter or are willing to spend the time and effort to learn how to build your own sauna, it's certainly possible to construct your own sauna from scratch. This allows you to create a thoroughly custom structure tailored to your vision. For most of us, however, time and expertise are usually not in excess. If you want to have a hand in the design and specifications of your home sauna but don't want to expend a lot of elbow grease, a sauna kit may be a good option.

Modular Sauna Kits

For those lacking in time and skill, modular sauna kits can provide an attractive alternative. Simply contact a sauna manufacturer, provide your specifications and dimensions, and you'll receive a pre-made sauna package with most of the work already done. After just a couple hours of assembly, you'll have a custom, free-standing home sauna ready to enjoy. Standard sizes range from 4' x 5' to 12' x 12', although custom dimensions are available for irregularly shaped spaces. Another nice thing about a modular sauna kit is that it can be taken down and re-assembled if you need to change its location.

With your modular sauna kit, you'll receive all sections pre-assembled, insulated, wood-paneled, and pre-wired. You'll need to assemble all of the wall sections and seating benches, install the electric heater and lights and hook it up to the power supply.

Below are some of the typical components that arrive with a modular sauna kit:

Wooden benches and bench supports

Cedar-paneled wall and ceiling sections

A pre-hung door assembly

A proportioned sauna heater tailored to your heat source and sauna size

Cedar floor panels to overlay the underlying concrete or tile

Built-in temperature controls

Optional accessories such as lighting, back rests, glass doors and panels, and other upgrades

Pre-Cut Sauna Kits

For those who want to get a little more hands-on when building their own sauna, a pre-cut sauna kit can offer an attractive and economical alternative. Because it requires more manual effort from you, you'll need to allocate more time to assemble this type of do-it-yourself sauna.

Pre-cut sauna kits require that you already have a dedicated room for your sauna, complete with framing, insulation and a waterproof floor. Simply specify your preferred dimensions (usually ranging from 4' x 4' to 8' x 12', but often available in custom sizes) and you'll receive all of the necessary materials to convert your space into a fully functioning sauna.

Below are some of the typical components that arrive with a pre-cut sauna kit:

Pre-cut cedar wood planks

Trim for corners and ceilings

Pre-assembled interior benches

A proportioned sauna heater tailored to your heat source and sauna size

Cedar floor panels to overlay your existing waterproof floor

Optional accessories such as lighting, back rests, glass doors and panels, and other upgrades

Built-in temperature controls

Special Considerations for Sauna Kits

When ordering your sauna kit, ensure that it's UL-rated for safe electrical wiring. We recommend hiring a professional electrician to complete all wiring of your home sauna.

Sauna doors should be designed with a wooden handle to prevent burning of hands, and should not include any locks. Never treat interior wooden surfaces with stain, finish, or paints of any kind, as the heat and steam can liquefy the coatings and emanate harmful chemicals into the air.

Finally, be sure to carefully follow the manufacturer's operating instructions for your modular or pre-cut sauna kit.
