Portable Saunas - Convenient & Surprisingly Economical
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Kevin_Urban]Kevin Urban

In decades past, before the proliferation of portable saunas, traditional saunas required a large, dedicated space, often even a completely separate and enclosed room. For most, enjoying the therapeutic benefits of saunas and steam rooms meant a trip to a public gym, spa, or recreational facility. With the introduction of portable home saunas, however, it's become increasingly convenient and surprisingly economical to enjoy the health benefits of saunas without leaving the comfort of your own home. Think of portable personal saunas as a low-risk "starter kit": they're a great way to test out the experience without making the commitment to a permanent, full-sized sauna.

Who Can Benefit from a Portable Sauna?

Any sauna enthusiast can appreciate the benefits of having a dedicated portable unit at their disposal 24 hours a day, 7 days a week: convenience, privacy, and cleanliness, among others. Whether you're better suited to a permanent sauna cabin or a portable unit depends on your lifestyle and the amount of time and money you're willing to expend. Generally speaking, you may be a good candidate for a portable sauna if you meet any of the below criteria:

You want a home sauna solution as quickly as possible, with little planning or preparation on your part

You're lacking in the carpentry skills required to build your own sauna, and don't have the extra money to pay someone to do it for you

You live in an urban area, apartment, condo, or rented home and can't dedicate an entire room or yard to an enclosed sauna

You're not sure how long you'll be at your current residence, and need to be able to easily move your sauna to a new location if necessary

You don't want to incur the operating expenses and overhead of a full-size sauna, and are seeking an affordable portable alternative to meet your budget

You travel frequently and need an easy, efficient way to reduce stress while on the road, without paying hefty fees at gyms or hotels

Types of Portable Sauna Kits

Although there are many different brands and subtle variations in features and functionality, there are two basic types of portable home saunas:

Portable Folding Saunas: Built for one-person use, this compact sauna plugs into any standard electrical outlet with no assembly or preparation necessary. Its box-like design allows you to sit inside the unit with only your hands and neck exposed. This type of portable personal sauna folds easily for travel or storage.

Portable Pre-built Saunas: These can range in size to accommodate up to several people. Pre-built saunas arrive in two or three sections, requiring approximately 30 minutes of assembly time. While not conveyed quite as easily as folding saunas, pre-built saunas can be transported when necessary, such as when you're moving to a new residence. Closer in style to traditional saunas, they include wooden benches and cedar walls, but are just as energy-efficient as the folding variety.

For their heat sources, portable home saunas use one of the following options:

Far Infrared Heat: By far the most common type of heat for portable units, far infrared heats the body directly, instead of the surrounding air. One of the advantages of infrared heat is its ability to penetrate the body's tissues much deeper than traditional steam saunas, promoting a host of health benefits.

Steam Heat: If you prefer a more moist heat, you might want to try a steam-based sauna. You only need to add water and plug it in-no plumbing is required. Many of the same relaxing and therapeutic benefits of infrared heat are also offered by portable steam saunas.

While they may be designed to a smaller scale, portable saunas offer the full range of health and relaxation benefits that you'd enjoy with a full-sized sauna, including stress relief, the flushing of toxins, improved circulation, healthier skin, alleviated aches and pains, and the accelerated burning of calories.
