Parents Carpet Stain Survival Guide

Fruit Juice Stain Removal
Sponge with solution of carpet shampoo in water. Then blot dry with clean dry cloth. Hard to remove stains use mentholated spirits and mop dry with clean cloth.
Furniture Polish Stain Removal
Apply carbon tetrachloride or trichloroethylene with clean cloth from outside to inside of stain. Blot dry. Hard to remove stains use solution carpet shampoo, then rinse and blot dry with clean dry cloth.
Glue (animal) Stain Removal
Apply a solution of carpet shampoo in water and blot dry. Then rinse and blot dry.
Glue (plastic) Stain Removal
Apply nail polish remover and blot with clean cloth. If necessary sponge with carpet shampoo in water. Rinse and blot dry with clean cloth.
Gravy Stain Removal
Scrape up as much as possible with spoon. Sponge with solution of carpet shampoo in water. Blot dry. If grease stain remains, apply carbon tetrachloride or trichloroethylene with clean cloth and blot dry.
Grass Stain Removal
Apply nail polish remover or mentholated spirits with clean cloth. Blot dry. If hard to remove stain. Sponge with solution of carpet shampoo and blot dry.
Grease Stain Removal
Apply carbon tetrachloride or trichloroethylene with clean cloth outside to inside. Then use carpet shampoo and rinse off and blot dry. May need more than one application.
Hair Cream Stain Removal
Apply a solution of carpet shampoo in water rinse well and blot dry with clean cloth.
Hand Cream Stain Removal
Apply a solution of carpet shampoo in water rinse well and blot dry with clean cloth.
Ice cream stain removal
Sponge with solution of carpet shampoo in water. If stain is hard to remove then use a solvent blot dry with clean cloth.
Ink Ball Point Stain Removal
Apply mentholated spirits with clean cloth. Blot dry. Then sponge with solution of carpet shampoo. Blot dry after a rinse.
Acid Stain Removal
Apply a solution of bicarbonate of soda or ammonia (1 tbs per Lt Water) leave only short time as colour may run. Rinse with cold water.
Soft Drink Stain Removal
Apply solution of neutral detergent or carpet shampoo and blot with clean cloth. Next put a solution of 1 part white vinegar to 3 part water and blot. Lastly rinse with clean warm water.
Blood Stain Removal
If fresh blot with clean cloth and apply cold water. If dry, sponge with solution of carpet shampoo working outside to inside. Next sponge with water and clean cloth. If stain persists, apply a few drops of hydrogen peroxide and after 2 to 3 minutes sponge with cold water and dry with clean cloth.
Butter Stain Removal
Apply carbon tetrachloride or trichloroethylene with clean cloth working from outside in. allows drying then wiping with dry cloth.
Crayon Stain Removal
Sponge with carbon tetrachloride or trichloroethylene and blot dry. Remove any left by using carpet shampoo in water rinse well and blot dry.
Dye Stain Removal
Remove using glycerin and clean cloth. If stain persists apply a petroleum jelly with a sponge and then rinse well with clean water. Blot dry with clean cloth.
Egg Stain Removal
Apply solution of neutral detergent in warm water and blot dry. Repeat until stain goes then rinse.
Copying Ink Stain Removal
Apply mentholated spirits with clean cloth. Blot quickly to prevent stain from spreading. Repeat then apply solution of a neutral detergent in water. Rinse with water and blot dry.
Writing Ink Stain Removal
Apply a solution of neutral detergent in water, blotting quickly to prevent the stain spreading. Rinse well blot dry.
Jam or Marmalade Stain Removal
Sponge with solution of carpet shampoo in water, rinse and blot dry.
Nail Varnish Stain Removal
Apply nail varnish remover, then sponge dry with a solution of neutral detergent or carpet shampoo in water rinse well blot dry.
Paint Stain Removal
Apply white spirits. Then sponge with soap solution. Rinse well and blot dry. If stain hard to remove then seek a professional cleaners advise.
Water Based Paint Stain Removal
Apply a solution of neutral detergent or carpet shampoo in water. Rinse well and blot dry with clean cloth.
Rust Stain Removal
Apply a solution of neutral detergent. Mop and dry. Rinse well. If stain hard to remove prepare a solution of oxalic acid (take care) and apply with clean cloth using rubber gloves. Rinse repeatedly, adding a little ammonia to first rinse water. Finish with cloth and blot dry.
Shoe Polish Stain Removal
Apply white spirit with clean cloth, turning cloth frequently. If stain hard to remove then use solvents. Last sponge with solution carpet shampoo in water, rinse and blot dry.
Tar Stain Removal
Use solvents and dry. Then apply a solution of carpet shampoo, rinse and blot dry.
Wax Stain Removal
Remove as much as possible by scraping. Then cover with blotting paper and apply a warm iron. The melted is absorbed by blotting paper. Apply white spirit with clean cloth changing surface frequently.
Vomit Stain Removal
Sponge with solution of carpet shampoo rinse well and blot dry.
