Kitchen Flooring
By Peter Emerson

Kitchen flooring should be durable and easy to clean. Various factors to be considered before buying Kitchen Floorings are appearance, comfort, ease of installation and removal, longevity and price. Wood, laminates, vinyl, linoleum, tile and cork are the important kitchen flooring materials available. Popular flooring choices among them are vinyl and linoleum. They are easy to clean and come in a variety of styles and designs. But vinyl and linoleum are vulnerable to water damage. Vinyl is long lasting but chances of peeling are high. Linoleum is environmentally friendly but color options are few. Ceramic tiles are handsome and easy to maintain. Tiles are available in many designs and colors.

Slate flooring is durable like ceramic tile. But it is hard on the feet and can be slippery. Slate flooring comes in shades of black, green, brown and gold. Bamboo and cork flooring are alternatives to wood. Cork is taken from oak trees. Cork flooring is soft and comfortable, but flexible. Cork is environmentally friendly and easy to maintain but it has only a lifespan of five to ten years. Bamboo flooring is hard, resists warping better than most wood.

Hardwood and laminate flooring can be used in kitchens, but they should be protected from moisture. For wood flooring there is no need for special coating. Concrete is used for kitchen flooring. It is good for radiant heat, but it requires sealing. Carpet and natural fiber floors will stain and are hard to keep clean.

Protecting a kitchen floor is important. If you have tile or hardwood floors then put carpet scraps over floor. If you have tile or hardwood, place a carpet pad underneath for better wear and tear. Avoid marble or a waxed floor to protect kids or elderly family members from slipping. Prices depend on the product?s design and durability.
