Guide to a Great Ranch House
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Peter_S._Mason]Peter S. Mason

The secrets to a great looking ranch house are to make it work for you and your family and update the home if necessary. Ranch houses are abundant since these were commonly built in the 70s. They are relatively spacious and work well for most families. The downside to getting an older ranch home is that it may not have the "look" you want. There is good news though. While there are many opinions about how one should go about re-doing a ranch house, all you really need to do is to find ways to make the home work for you.

Look at the Floor Plan

When you live in a ranch house, you will probably find that the floor plan is not what you want. However, if there is enough room in the house, chances are, you can make the floor plan work for you without expensive renovations. A typically ranch house has three or four bedrooms, a living room and 1 ½ or two bathrooms. If you take a look at your home, you may find that you can make existing rooms into something useable. For example, if you have a dining room, but you know that you do not use it very often, how about making the room a study, a library or even a guest bedroom. This will require very little hard renovation and you will use your space better. An extra bedroom could serve as an office, or whatever you may need the space for in your home. Look at what you can do with the space you already have.

Redecorate:

Living in a ranch home probably means that you will need to do a fair amount of redecorating. A typical ranch home that has not been redecorated in many years may have dark paneling on the walls and odd, dated colors. Kitchen counters may be the infamous avocado green or golden yellow. You may have plumbing and fixtures in the bathroom that really date the home. These are all things that can easily be replaced to give your home a great, up to date appearance. A fresh coat of paint in your favorite color is in order and replacing the floors will do a lot for your home as well.

Look at the Exterior:

Many ranch homes have a typical look. They are often one story, so you may not have the visual height of a modern two story home. What you can do to update the exterior of your home with CNC machines is to look at the landscaping. Plant new shrubs and tall trees and in no time the outside of your home will look wonderful.
