Duct tape was invented during World War II. At that time, it was used to seal canisters, mend broken windows, and fix cracked gun magazines and other broken or loose items. Duct tapes use rubber based adhesive that makes them water proof.
Duct tapes can be used to make a number of personal utility products. A number of branded duct tape products are also available in craft stores and online stores. Duct tape wallets, handbags, back packs, bookmarks, bracelets and mobile phone covers are some of the common products that are made using duct tapes.
The first thing required for making any of these products is duct tape fabric. It is made by placing the sticky side of two pieces of duct tape one over the other. To make a wallet out of duct tape fabric, one requires a cutting board, ruler, razor blade and two pieces of duct tape fabric a little larger than a bill. The corners are cut and folded to join both pieces together. This creates a single, one-pocket wallet. More pieces of duct tape fabric can be used for making multi pocket wallets. Other projects are also executed using the same basic process with only a few minor adjustments in design and technique.
Duct tape can be used to create life size sculptures of animal, birds, cartoon characters and famous personalities. Other duct tape projects include duct tape flip-flops, folders, pencil holders, and can holder, shoelaces, tie and hammock. Contests are held regularly in schools and colleges to make new innovative products from duct tape fabric.
Different types of duct tapes are available on the market including Industrial grade, professional grade, utility grade, all purpose grade, and colored grade. They differ in composition and can be combined to make new and more vibrant products or works of art.
