A Guide to Choosing a Residential Elevator
By Caitlina Fuller

When you want to improve your home there are a lot of design changes you can do. One particularly popular change many families are looking into is adding a residential elevator. And no, this is not just a luxury for the rich and famous with huge homes. This is a luxury many families can afford no matter the size of their home. There are a lot of advantages to residential elevators especially for seniors and this is part of the reason why stair lifts and vertical lifts have become so popular as well.

As we age it becomes significantly more difficult to walk up and down stairs, especially if your bedroom is on a second story. So, instead of creating a bedroom downstairs just keep your home as you always have and install a residential elevator. This is great to do at any time in your life as it will help with moving large items up and down the stairs or even just taking the laundry up with your infant. Most moms know how impossible it is to carry an infant in one arm and a load of clothes in the other. Because of this residential elevators are useful for all stages of life. However, when you become incapable of walking up and down stairs having an elevator already installed is especially nice. There are just a few things you should keep in mind, however.

First of all, if your home was not built with an elevator to begin with you will need to make some design changes to add the elevator. Determine where in your home would be an appropriate place for the elevator and where you have enough room. This may take some time and you may need the help of an architect to make the proper changes. However, once you decide on the location you will be ready to have your elevator installed. It is important to decide on the proper size early on so that once you have an area in your house ready for installation it will be for the correct elevator. There are lots of different sizes of residential elevators and you need to determine which is right for you. Consider how often you will use the elevator, how many people it should accommodate, its speed, functions, and price. When you consider these elements up front you will be able to pick out the best residential elevator for your home.
