Shaping a NEW Artificial Tree

Shaping a NEW Artificial Tree
By D Randolph

Out of the box most trees are made to fit in the box. So each tree will need a little careful shaping to look like you want it to look. This is really simple and does not take much time.

The branches of a fake tree have wire built into them so they can be carefully bent to the exact shape you are looking for. If you grab a branch you'll be able to see where the wire is. On some trees the wire will extend into the leaves slightly for even better manipulation.

On a 6-8' tree, the box will be about 12" wide and when your done shaping the tree will be about 3-4' wide depending on the style. Proper shaping will also make the tree look fuller.

We recommend the directional shaping method, which will maximize fullness and create a better silhouette for your silk plants. Starting near the trunk or main stem of the artificial tree, work your way to the end of the frond or leaf, gently bending as you go, creating a slight downward curve on the lowest branches of the plant to a slight upward angle toward the top branches. By slightly staggering the tips around the branch of you silk plants, your tree will have a fuller look. Again, referring to the original item picture will help greatly in this process.

It usually takes repeating this process a few times to get it just perfect. If you are shaping to fit a corner you can place the tree temporarily to help you get the flatter surfaces correct.
