Double Garages - Ten Reasons You Should Get a Double Rather Than Single
By Henry Gale

To help you decide whether you want a double garage we've come up with ten things that you could do in your bigger garage.

Restore a Car - With double the width or length you have more room to manoeuvre. Unfortunately many single garages don't really have the space you would need to restore a car, with more space you have room for the car and a work bench to work on the more delicate parts of the process. So if you can find yourself an old unloved Jaguar, MG or any older car you could have a beautiful restored car on your hand.

Refurbish Furniture - while new furniture has never been cheaper, however often they can't match the design or build quality. This is why restoring furniture is becoming more popular. With the space available in a double garage you would have the perfect opportunity to give furniture restoration a try. Whether it's a simple case of sanding down a table and re-varnishing or something more sophisticated the extra room could come in handy.

Start a Band - Garages have become such a popular location for the bands to replace there is even a kind music named after it. So if you are looking to form a band the more space you have the better. Another reason to choose a double garage. So pick up your guitar and amp and call a few friends and become the next big thing.

Home Cinema - It seems everyone and his dog has a huge plasma or LCD TV. Though even the best TVs money can buy cannot compete with a well set up projector. So if you're a movie buff or a sports fan a garage might be an ideal location for a home cinema. Garages can often be built with out windows and are often the right size and shape for a home cinema. The equipment can often prove quite expensive so it's important you make sure your garage is secure.

Convert it into a spare room - house prices are higher than ever and show no signs of slowing. As a consequence lots of people are contemplating turning their garages into spare rooms. As they are already part of the house it's often a lot easier to convert a garage than build a new extension. Having extra space of a double garage is even more useful in situations like this.

Turn into a Home Office- there are plenty of reasons why people would work from home. Saving the time and environmental impact of commuting is hugely desirable. It's easy to convert a garage into a home office.

Create a Wine Cellar - not the most practical of suggestions but offers lots of fun. Wine needs a cool storage environment and a converted garage would be perfect. There's a thriving investment market in wine, and many people are finding that vintage wines can hold and gain their value.

Turn it into a Sauna - another left field suggestion for your double garage. Create a Sauna. It might require more effort and money to convert but could provide real value and a nice treat after a hard day at work.

Take up a Craft - most people would like to be more creative; taking up a craft might provide that outlet. Whether its painting, wood carving or any other form of craft a double garage can offer the space you need.

Make a Games Room - Most blokes' idea of a dream, a Pool table, maybe a bar or table football. Perhaps one of the most popular garage conversions is the games room; double garages are must as you'd struggle to get a full sized pool table in a single garage.
